This year, the jury had the great pleasure of awarding the Lyon Art Paper 2021 Prize to Svetlana Arefiev.

The scroll "Dream" earned Svetlana Arefiev the Lyon Art Paper Prize in 2021.
“The latest series of my drawings was inspired by photographic contact sheets abandoned by a dissatisfied photographer. Sometimes, one of these grey faces—more striking than the others—seemed to deserve not to remain anonymous or be discarded by its creator. Its imperfection earned it a character’s name, and once drawn on paper, the features in graphite shadow, torn from the film’s light, began to tell a new story.”
